DENNIA THOMPSON DNP, APRN, WHNP-BC, PMHNP-BCDr. Dennia Thompson is a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner whose practice has been focused on women's health and providing care to women in the underserved community. Dr. Thompsons' career in the obstetrics and gynecology emergency department was proceeded by her career as a registered nurse in the exact same women's emergency department. While holding true to her commitment to women's health. Dr. Thompson has made it her mission to provide excellent medical care to the women of the Dallas/Fort Worth community and educate women and girls about their gynecological health. Dr. Thompson has published her work titled Increasing Awareness of Sexually Transmitted Infection Through Education. Dr. Thompson is happily married with four children, and in her free time, she loves to put her own spin on new recipes, host elaborate parties, design one-of-a-kind jewelry, and volunteer in the community. Dr. Thompson, the treasurer of BWISE, is determined for the organization to help as many young women of color reach their academic and professional goals by serving on both the executive board and the board of directors.

KYANNA SILAS, DNP, APRN, WHNP-BC
Dr. Silas is the first college graduate in her family. She was aspired by her late aunt Florene Silas, who was a licensed vocational nurse (LVN). Dr. Silas grew up in Oakcliff, graduating from South Oak Cliff High School, ranking third in her graduating class of 1999. As a child, she knew she wanted to work in the medical field and become an obstetrician/gynecologist (OB/GYN). But she took another route and graduated with a Bachelor in Nursing Science from the magnificent HBCU, Prairie View A&M University in May 2005. She received her master's in women’s health nurse practitioner from Texas Woman’s University (TWU) in May 2014. She was encouraged by two beautiful ladies, Dr. Lasteshia Ekeocha and Dr. Dennia Thompson, to pursue her Doctor of Nursing Practice from TWU.
Dr. Kyanna Silas is currently working as a women’s health nurse practitioner caring for underserved women in the southeast region of Dallas county who are pregnant, wanting birth control, needing annual gynecology exams, bleeding issues, having women concerns and/or problems. Dr. Silas is a very busy woman who takes care of both of her handicapped parents, and she has two handsome sons, Kasen McLemore and Kollin McLemore. She enjoys hanging out with her family, singing, dancing, and good food. One message Dr. Silas would like to leave is to “Never give up on your dreams!!! Always remember, Philippians 4:13- I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. LASTESHIA EKEOCHA DNP, APRN, WHNP-BC
Dr. Ekeocha is an advanced practice provider and clinic manager at a large Dallas County health care institution, in which she specializes in women’s health. Since 2014, she has served a range of female-related health milestones and concerns in women of adolescence to maturity. She is passionate about educating women on their bodies’ to improve health outcomes. Her goal is to take her desire to educate and use it to mentor other women to reach their health and educational goals.
Dr. Ekeocha was born in Temple, Texas and raised in Fort Worth, where she graduated within the top 10 of Western Hills High School class of 2003. She went to Baylor University as a Biology/Pre-Med student for three years. She often volunteered at a local hospital in Waco, Texas. The compassion the registered nurses had for their patients and the respect and trust the patient had in return, resulted in her realization of nursing was her calling. She moved to Dallas, TX and received her Associates Degree in Nursing and quickly moved up the career ladder. Dr. Ekeocha loves to serve her community and is an active member of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, and The Links, Incorporated. Dr. Ekeocha is married and has two children, who motivates her to be the best woman she can be. She enjoys traveling the world with her family. She is surrounded by love and support but understands that not everyone is as blessed. She aims to use BWISE to spread as much love and support to women in the DFW metroplex. LETICIA COLE DNP, APRN, CPNP-PC, CPN
Dr. Cole is a Dallas native and was raised in Garland Texas. She has served as a nurse for over a decade and a nurse practitioner for eight years providing excellent nursing care in continually changing and challenging situations, while ensuring high compliance to processes and procedures. She is a dedicated pediatric nurse practitioner and managing member of Sniffles & Giggles Pediatric Clinic. She has been recognized as a reliable and ethical individual with the ability to stay calm and intervene during crises. She has also served as a preceptor for novice nurses and aspiring nurse practitioners.
Dr. Cole has adopted a lifelong commitment to our most vulnerable populations to educate individuals and small groups in health management. She is a proud member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. With her professional and community commitment, she has proven to have the ability to build positive relationships with children, family members, and other professionals. Dr. Cole is excited to be part of BWISE and looks forward to mentoring and reinvesting in young women of color. WHITNEY KIRKPATRICK, DNP, APRN, AGNP-C
Dr. Kirkpatrick has always had an affinity for the medical field. She was urged to go into nursing by her mother and was ultimately captivated by emergency medicine. After many years of excitement in the emergency department, she earned her master’s degree in Adult/Geriatric Advanced Nursing Practice from the University of Cincinnati. With this degree, her career in the emergency department escalated when she began to work at a large county hospital in Dallas, Texas serving some of the most underprivileged patients in the city. Due to her passion for learning, she pressed on to earn her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Texas Woman’s University in the Spring of 2019. Dr Kirkpatrick was an adjunct faculty member and later became a full-time faculty member educating the future of nursing at Texas Woman’s University. Dr. Kirkpatrick enjoyed arts and crafts, traveling with her husband, and playing with her dog.
Dr. Kirkpatrick passed away in October of 2022, but her legacy will live on through the establishment of a scholarship in her memory. She was greatly loved by her family, BWISE, her students, and the TWU community.
